Asian Counseling & Referral Service (ACRS) Community Service Center
Seattle, WA
82,300 Square Feet
This project is the new home of one of the largest Asian Pacific American (APA) human services providers in the U.S. The building is designed with program planning and client service as the main foci. It is a synthesis of line, form and material that is expressive of the multi-faceted experience of the APA community in the Pacific Northwest. The project consists of a three-story 60,900 SF community center and administrative office building above a 21,400 SF subterranean garage with parking for 50+ cars. Community use spaces include classrooms, meeting and counseling rooms, a kitchen, and a multi-use gymnasium. Administrative spaces include a boardroom, conference rooms, private offices, caseworker cubicles, open office areas, and work rooms. The goal for this building is to achieve a Certified LEED rating. Some of the specific sustainable features of the project include energy star rated metal roof system; natural daylighting and ventilation; and the use of local materials for construction.
"ACRS challenged DKA to design a facility that is functional, compatible with the neighborhood, fitting with the Northwest environment and sensitive to the cultures of Asian Pacific Islander communities. Undaunted by the task, DKA designed a building that is aesthetically pleasing, functionally empowering and culturally connecting. Thanks to DKA, ACRS will have a beautiful gathering place proud to call home."
